16. Harmonic and Intermodulation Distortion Test
Set the synthesized sweeper for an output CW frequency of
230.00 MHz and an output level of approximately -30
dBm.
Press
C2J
on the analyzer. Key in the following settings:

Connect equipment as shown in Figure 2-28, using the 250 MHz
low-pass filter. Adjust the synthesized sweeper output level to
place peak of signal trace at the top graticule line.
Press DISPLAY LINE

Press MARKER (PEAK SEARCH],
(j-j,
CMKR/A-+ STP SIZE).
Activate (CENTER FREQUENCY] and press

to tune to the second
harmonic of the input signal.
Reduce (FREQUENCY SPAN) to 10
kHz
and
c-1
to 30 Hz.
Reduce
(RES]
if necessary, for a margin of 15
dB
between the
displayed noise and the display line.
The second harmonic should be below the display line
(c-80
dBc).
Second harmonic level of 230 MHz

Replace the 250 MHz low-pass filter with the 1200 MHz low-pass
filter.
Set the synthesized sweeper for an output CW frequency of
800.000 MHz.
Press

Adjust synthesized sweeper output level to place peak of signal
trace at the reference level line.
Note
If unable to locate a harmonic distortion product, increase the output
level by 10
dB.
Be sure to return the output level to the original
setting before making a measurement.
